For the strength portion of our dryland practices, we recommend that you purchase the following items:
- a medicine ball
- two resistance bands
1) MEDICINE BALL
We recommend a medium to heavy non-bouncy medicine ball.
- 12 to 16 lbs for women
- 16 to 20 lbs for men
We do not recommend the rubberized bouncy medicine balls because there is a higher risk of injuring your fingers when doing tossing exercises, a higher risk of injuring your face when the ball bounces back up when slamming, and they are harder to control outside.
Where to buy
Julie D. (our Saturday strength coach) has four “12 lb EVERLAST” medicine balls to sell for 57$ each (50$ + tax) at Sat Sep 20 practice. First come, first served. Here is a link to see what they look like: http://www.shopeverlast.com/powercore-medicine-ball.html . Or you may purchase one online at the same link. You may also try Sears; they may still have some in store or online.
Various medicine balls can be found at Fitness Depot. They are offering a 15% discount to XCCM members on medicine balls and foam rollers. Please see details below.**
2) RESISTANCE BANDS
We recommend the Thera-Band “heavy resistance” bands (not tubing), which includes 2 bands: a black band (most resistance) and a blue band (medium resistance). The lighter weight bands (red & yellow), are ok for therapy, but are not ideal for the exercises we will be performing because they will break.
Where to buy:
Fitness Depot is offering a 10% discount to XCCM members on Thera-Band resistance bands. Please see details below.**
If you have any questions, feel free to speak to Julie D. at the Saturday practices.
