About the club
XC Chelsea Masters (XCCM) is a year-round cross-country ski club. We offer coached programs that help members improve their ski technique, build fitness, and enjoy being part of an active and supportive community.
XCCM is a not-for-profit organization incorporated with Industry Canada. There is a Board of Directors that oversees our day-to-day operations of the club. For a greater understanding of the club’s governance, members are encouraged to attend our Annual General Meeting.
Our programs are open to adults over 30 who already have some experience with both classic and skate skiing and want to continue improving their skills.
Our winter programs are not designed for new or first-time skiers. Members should already be comfortable skiing both classic and skate techniques. If you’re new to cross-country skiing, we recommend taking beginner lessons before joining XCCM.
Not at all. Many of our members never race. Some train for ski loppets or the Canadian Ski Marathon, while others simply enjoy becoming stronger skiers and spending time outdoors with friends.

We are a not-for-profit organisation and fees collected cover the club’s expenses such as equipment, coaching, CCC/NCD fees, etc. To better understand our fee structure and expenses, members are encouraged to attend our Annual General Meeting.

We have minimum fitness and technique requirements as this is a performance-oriented club [link to relevant Home section]. Have a conversation with your coach if you feel you can’t keep up, particularly if this happens at the beginning of the season. Your coach will help you assess the situation and decide what is the best course of action.
Up-to-date information about upcoming practices is posted on the Calendar page [link]. Always check it a few hours before practice, particularly in winter, to find out whether any last-minute changes have been made. Changes to practice are made based on weather conditions and other events.
Yes. Dryland regular programs include lower-impact options for members who are returning from injury or have other physical limitations.
Programs are adjusted based on weather and trail conditions. If necessary, sessions may be moved to an alternate location or replaced with dryland training.
Training
We have minimum fitness and technique requirements as this is a performance-oriented club [link to relevant Home section]. You should be comfortable participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, running, cycling, or skiing for up to 2-3 hours.
We highly recommend regular attendance. And we understand that work, travel, and family commitments sometimes get in the way.
Yes. Some of our coaches offer private one-on-one coaching. Refer to the Private Ski Lessons page for more information. While limited due to the group context, coaches provide individual feedback during regular practices, and clinics allow for personalized instruction.
Equipment requirements vary by program. Details are available on the FB program page, but generally you’ll need:
- Classic and skate skis
- Appropriate boots and poles
- Clothing suitable for outdoor exercise
- Water and snacks for longer sessions
- A headlamp for evening programs
Dryland and rollerski programs have additional equipment requirements.
For these practices, you’ll want to dress for running and bring a water bottle belt carrier, if possible. In addition to plenty of hydration, you’ll likely want a snack for the longer Saturday practices. Bring poles for ski bounding – an old pair of classic ski poles works well – as well as a yoga mat. You’ll likely welcome dry, warm clothes for after as well. We usually go for coffee at Les Saisons in Old Chelsea after Saturday practices and we hope you can join us!
Yes. XCCM has a limited number of rollerskis available for clinics. Equipment can be reserved during registration.
Events
Many members enter the local signature event: the Gatineau Loppet. The Canadian Ski Marathon is an endurance event that offers a whole range of distances, and one-day or two-day participation. There are a number of shorter races within a 100km radius that members attend. Participating in an event is a fun way to set a personal goal and celebrate your progress.
Absolutely! XCCM is as much about community as it is about skiing. Throughout the year we organize training camps, potluck dinners, coffee after Saturday practices, volunteer activities, and other social gatherings.
Policies
Yes. All members must complete the required waiver before participating in club activities.
Cancellations and refunds are available under certain circumstances. Check our policies for details.
