Jamie Kallio – DRYLAND, ROLLERSKI, AND SKI COACH
Jamie grew up in the Northern Ontario city of Timmins where he developed an appreciation for outdoor winter sports at an early age. Skiing, skating, snowshoeing during the winter and biking, running and eventually roller skiing began at an early age and were routine by age 14. Racing at the provincial and national level for the Porcupine Ski Runner club in Timmins became a year-round commitment for seven years. After that, the sport of Biathlon with the National Training Squad became the focus for 3 years in the mid-1980s. This led to a berth on the 1987 World Championship Team and eventually a spot on the Canadian team for the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Since then Jamie has been giving lessons in skiing and coaching from the club to the international level in biathlon and cross-country skiing. He also has an NCCP Level 3 Certification in both Cross-country skiing and Biathlon. Currently, racing is less of a priority; with the goal now of getting a permanent bib at the CSM.

LIAM WALKE – DRYLAND AND SKI COACH
Liam started skiing roughly around the time he started walking. With a brief stint of racing in university, he became interested in teaching and coaching skiing and has been doing so for the last 10 years or so. On top of private technique classes and coaching, he has been involved in ski outreach with Nakkertok’s Ski Fast program, and in some Inuit communities in Northern Quebec. Liam has both CANSI and NCCP level 1 certification. When there’s snow, he’s skiing! When there isn’t, you’ll find him in the bush or the mountains, running or biking or climbing… basically doing whatever he can to stay outside. See you on the trails!

raylan stroud – dryland, rollerski and SKI COACH
Raylan grew up in Northern Ontario exploring the woods; canoe tripping, hiking, and skiing with her outdoor enthusiastic parents. In grade 6 her family moved to Huntsville, Ontario where she joined the Arrowhead Ski Program as a Jackrabbit and subsequently the Huntsville High School Cross Country Ski Team. Thanks to some amazing teammates and coaches Raylan’s love for cross country skiing was developed. She continued to race at the provincial and national level with the University of Guelph Varsity Ski Team. After university her athletic focus changed slightly, and she spent a few years racing triathlons nationally and internationally with the Ontario Development Team. An eager young athlete, Raylan was not only a cross country skier but a competitive dancer, soccer player, alpine ski racer, cross country runner, and triathlete. This diverse background allows her to coach in a very comprehensive style.
In 2019, Raylan moved to Ottawa, drawn in by the biking/triathlon and skiing community. She began coaching Jackrabbits with Kanata Nordic and downhill skiing at Camp Fortune. Raylan is planning to attend teacher’s college next, but for now you can find her spending every free moment cycling (road, gravel, mountain or cross), trail running, or skiing in Gatineau Park!

alison pouw – dryland and SKI COACH
Alison grew up in Ottawa where she was forced to cross country ski by her parents at a young age. Despite any early push back, Alison grew to love the outdoors and with that love came a passion for skiing. She loves exploring, running, camping, paddling, hiking and skiing (all types) of course. Alison basically grew up at Nakkertok on the weekends and soon joined the racing program, where she competed at the provincial and national levels, earning spots on both the Ontario team and the National junior development team. At the end of her competitive ski career, Alison had a few National medals under her belt, won overall age group Nationals & OFSAA, and also topped the Ontario circuit.
After “retiring” from xc ski racing, Alison moved to Vancouver to run Varsity Track and Cross Country at UBC. She competed for 2 years on the XC Running team, winning NAIA’s 2 years in a row as a women’s team. Unfortunately, after suffering from many injuries, she ended her varsity running career in 2018. Throughout university Alison also participated in the UBC ski club, finishing her 5 years as the Marketing and Communications officer on the team. The UBC team was (and is) a great reminder that skiing doesn’t have to be competitive to be fun. As long as you’re with a great group of people, you’ll love (almost) every second of the sport!
Alison finished her Chemical Engineering, and minor in Commerce in 2021, while in Whistler. COVID surfaced a love for downhill and backcountry skiing that Alison never knew existed! If you can’t find her roaming around the Gatineau park, Nakkertok, or local restaurants in Ottawa, Alison is probably working at her day job as an AI&Cloud Consultant. Secretly a nerd at heart, feel free to pick Alison’s brain about all things Azure or Cloud after practice.
